The 11/26/2001 Catholic Answers Live Show, Advent: Preparing for the Messiah with host Jerry Usher and guest Fr. Benedict Groeschel. Fr. Groeschel explains in many Christian families and schools there is a lack of real understanding of what the ancient Church taught about Jesus Christ and there are phony ideas of Christ. The best thing to do in Advent and Lent is to introduce the children to simple reading of scripture. In terms of the secular observance of Christmas, the Christmas tree and Santa Claus, fit that into a Christian perspective. Some of it is silly and commercial. The advent wreath came out of England in the Middle Ages. It used to have a candle for every day of Advent. Sadly, the idea of fasting in Advent has gotten lost. Listen Download
