July 14th, 2008 at 5:08 pmI was disappointed to hear on your program tonight that it wouldn’t be proper to receive Holy communion at mass if you are from a different denomination. My Father was Catholic all his life and my Mother a protestant. I have attended both churches and I feel that God Himself would receive ALL to accept His body and blood for the Lord’s Supper or Holy Communion and does not have rules or obligations other than believing in Him as Lord
July 24th, 2008 at 9:57 pmJesus Christ in order to receive it.
Our bishop has required that all communicants stand until the last person has received the Precious Body and Blood of our Lord. When I return to my pew I want to kneel down and give thanks for the Great Gift that I have just received immediately. It is annoying to have to stand when I want to be on my knees thanking God. Once Communion has been given to everyone, the congregation sits and our priest or deacon launches into the announcements so there is no time to kneel in thanksgiving. I have decided that I am going to kneel down and give thanks immediately after I return to the pew even if I stick out like a “sore thumb.” Whenever we have summer visitors to our church, they all kneel down right after Communion so part of the congregation is standing and part of the people are kneeling. It is very awkward. Is it OK to go against a bishop’s order if it seems that the order is wrong? I still don’t understand why he decided to change this.
