Your Fertility Care Consult (Shows 1-11)
From Spirit Catholic Radio audio shows with Dr. Thomas Hilgers, founder of the Pope Paul VI Institute for The Study of Human Reproduction in Omaha, NE. He is a senior medical consultant in obstetrics, gynecology, reproductive medicine and surgery at the Pope Paul VI Institute and is the director of the Institute’s National Center for Women’s Health. He is the medical director of the Pope Paul VI Institute’s Reproductive Ultrasound Center, which is nationally accredited by the Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Commission of the American Institute for Ultrasound in Medicine. He is also the medical director of the Institute’s National Reproductive Hormone Laboratory, which is a dedicated reference laboratory for reproductive hormone studies, which is fully licensed for interstate commerce.
A summary of very interesting and informative talks with host Kris McGregor and Dr. Thomas Hilgers. There is nothing else like this that is being done in terms of women’s
health that talks about it from a point of view of Catholic morality. Dr. Hilgers dedicated his professional life to this work after reading “Humane Vitae” in 1968. The descent to Humane Vitae was so overwhelming that if you agreed with it they made you feel like you were an idiot. Within the medical profession Natural Family Planning (NFP) is the butt of multiple jokes, and about 99% don’t know a thing about it. In 2004 the textbook on NaProTECHNOLOGY was published. Dr. Hilgers and his wife Susan met in the pro-life movement and had five children. He wanted to build a Mayo Clinic for the treatment of reproductive disorders that had a Catholic, moral and ethical foundation to it. People come from all over the country for these services. What has happened in the past 45 years is a national tragedy. One out of every three babies is born to unwed mothers. Pope Paul VI predicted faithfulness among spouses would change dramatically. The prematurity rate in the U.S. has doubled in the last 35-45 years. Why would someone take a drug that would shut down our normal bodily activity? Who would take a pill that would shut off their liver or kidney? Years ago all Christian denominations were against contraception. Society is genitally focused in our view of human sexuality. The birth control pill advertisments on television say all this glorious stuff for about 30 seconds and the next 30 seconds the announcer talks real fast, and real low, about the side effects. How does the birth control pill work? Everyday 4000-5000 unborn babies are killed in the U.S. How many of these babies might have found the cure to Aids and other diseases and problems? What happens in an abortion and partial-birth abortion? The complications of abortion. Show eleven has an interesting story about the Roe v. Wade decision and Justice Blackmun. Contraception increases out-of-wedlock pregnancy rates. A doctor will give the pill for menstrual cramps and in the back of the doctor’s mind he will say “and she won’t get pregnant.” Dr. Hilgers discusses the HPV vaccine. Artificial Reproduction Technology - Are we ever going to find a cure for infertility? If we continue down the artificial road we will never find a cure because it is not interested in the causes. About 6.2 million women have some type of impaired infertility. The causes of recurrent miscarriages. What is endometriosis and the treatment and causes. The pharmaceutical industry is not a friend of the NaProTechnology treatments, but some Compounding Pharmacists are interested. Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOS), Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), and Postpartum Depression.

Summary - If Planned Parenthood’s mantra “every child a wanted child” was something that would build a better society, then over the past 45-50 years we would have seen it but we haven’t. There are more unloved children in today’s world than there ever has been. One of the things that Humane Vitae is very clear on is the importance of the role of men. The culture wants to pull the Church toward it when in fact the culture needs to come to the Church. Abortion and sexual promiscuity are probably responsible as why the prematurity rate has increased. NaProTechnology is an answer to dealing with women’s health issues. We had better success rates in treating infertility 35 years ago than we do today. Dr. Hilgers says if he had to sit and prescribe birth control pills all day long he would go batty.
